俄共時代，總書記赫魯雪夫 (Nikita Khrushchev) 向來心直口快，行事風格蠻橫。有一次，記者問他：“你口說沒有神，我們怎麼知道你心裏面真的是無神？”
赫魯雪夫回答說：“上帝知道我是無神論者。”（God knows I am an atheist.）
他還說：“我們蘇聯太空人在外太空繞了繞，沒看見什麼上帝。”
葛理翰牧師 (Billy Graham) 回應說：“這好像一隻蚯蚓白天從土裡伸出頭來，探了一探，說：‘哪有星星？沒看到啊！’（It is like an earthworm stretching his head out of the ground in the daytime looking aroundand saying “Where are the stars? I don’t see any!”）然後就縮回土裡。”
