Summer 在他的书《奇妙圣言 The wonder of the word of God》中，讲述堪萨斯城 (Kansas City) 一个男人的故事。这人在一次爆炸中受了重伤，面容严重变形，不单失去双手，也丧失视力。意外发生时，他才成为基督徒不久，令他大失所望的就是不能够再读圣经。后来他听说英国有一位女士能用嘴唇读点字符号 (Braille 盲文)，他也希望能这样读圣经，于是订购了几卷盲文版的圣经书卷。不过他发现，嘴唇的神经末梢受损太严重，无法分辨文字。有一天，当他把点字版放到嘴唇上，舌头正好接触到几个凸起的字，他能感觉得到它们的存在，刹那间他想到：“我可以用舌头读圣经。” Robert L. Summer 在写这件事的时候，这人已读完整本圣经六次。
